Welcome to Pill Harriers Rugby Club

We are Pill Harriers RFC, a historic rugby club based in Pillgwenlly, Newport, with roots dating back to 1882. Over the years, we’ve built a proud legacy, producing several players who have represented Wales, including George Travers and Jerry Shea. While our early years were marked by success in the Monmouthshire League and significant contributions to Welsh rugby, we faced challenges during World War II, which led to the closure of the club in 1947 when our grounds were repurposed for industrial use.

In 1978, we were reborn through the amalgamation of Newport Hibernians and Pill Labour, and since then, we’ve gone from strength to strength. Gaining Welsh Rugby Union membership in 1986 was a key milestone, and we’ve celebrated league promotions and competitive success ever since. Today, we remain deeply rooted in our community, fostering local talent and competing proudly in the WRU leagues. Our commitment to grassroots rugby and our heritage drives us forward as we continue to be a vital part of Newport’s sporting culture.
